Latest news on the cash point situation in Sturminster Newton
Many of you have experienced the significant and worsening issues when accessing cash in the town recently. There have been several reports that the Cardtronics Cashpoint in the Coop has run out of cash repeatedly – particularly at weekends. This has been escalated to a Director at Cardtronics and their Area Manager. They promised to address this poor performance last year, but appear not to have succeeded.
The Area Manager of One-Stop responded via their customer services department (apparently too busy to talk in person) to their situation: they are training/retraining staff on new security procedures and will not be back to full service in the post office until the week of 21st May. Their cash point is also not due to be replaced until the 18th May.
A letter has been written to the North Dorset MP Simon Hoare to see if he has any news on our town being designated for advantageous rural transaction fees to increase the viability of getting a new additional ATM installed. He offered to meet LINK to discuss the impact of their action to reduce transaction fees – the reason given by Cardtronics for cancelling the new ATM in the former Barclays premises.
This is a difficult situation for residents and our small businesses – particularly as we approach the summer season where we hope to increase tourism spend in the town. Cllr Chris Spackman continues to pursue the above actions and he encourages you to “Please make use of cashback at the coop and the post office where possible for withdrawing cash”.
