Try the 8 new Walkabouts and enjoy the beautiful and hugely varied countryside of the Blackmore Vale all around us, and all start from the Station Road Car Park.

1 Gotts Corner / Honeymead Lane /Butts Pond Meadows A varied walk with features of interest in Sturminster Newton, both past and present. 1.5
2 Manston / Hammoon / Fiddleford Mill A longer walk through two neighbouring hamlets, mainly in the River Stour valley with views of Hambledon Hill 5.5
3 Fiddleford Mill / Piddles Wood / Broad Oak

 

A mostly level walk, with a steady climb up into Piddles Wood – a delightful wooded area with plenty of flora and fauna, including deer. 5
4 Recreation Ground / Sturminster Newton Mill / Coach Road A short picturesque walk with plenty of interest.

5 River Stour / Cutt Mill / Stalbridge Lane The walk follows the Stour river valley, crossing it at Cutt Mill and returning along the ancient lane linking Sturminster and Stalbridge 5.5
6 Old Railway / Fiddleford Mill

 

A gentle walk along the old railway line, passing the attractive mill buildings at Fiddleford 2
7 River Stour / Hinton St Mary

 

A scenic walk along the valley of the Stour, then through the attractive village of Hinton St Mary, with great views across the Blackmore Vale 4.5
8 Rudge Hill / Plumber Manor / Puxey Farm A scenic walk giving views from the higher ground to the south of the town, then back past picturesque Plumber Manor and Puxey Farm 5

 

The Town Council has generously provided the funding for printing, and for copies you can call in to their Office, the Community Office, Sturminster Library, the Museum or the Mill.   All of the routes follow public Rights of Way that are clearly signed, and the leaflets are also available for you to download and print, thanks to technical assistance from the Dorset Countryside Ranger services.  https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/walkabouts
