Stour Connect Social Evening

Stour Connect in Bath Road, Sturminster Newton is holding what is hoped to be the first of many SOCIAL EVENINGS for the whole community.

“Our first social evening is planned for Thursday 28th September 2017 from 6.30 pm til 9.30pm, ” says Andy Watson, Chair of The Friends of Stour Connect.  “This will be the first of our monthly social evenings and these will include music nights, film nights, indoor sports activities – but we would much rather the community decides what they want from these nights.”

“These social evenings are being started through a partnership of Tricuro staff and the (new) Friends of Stour Connect, which will become for the first time a Charity Commission Registered CIO. Funding to start these evenings has been secured via the Waitrose, Gillingham Green Token Scheme, and as Chairperson of the Friends of wish to say a huge thank you to the local community for voting for us with your tokens, and to Waitrose for their support.”

“The opening of the Stour Connect Social Evening will also coincide with the opening of our NEW MENS SHED which will be based in a self-contained fitted ex woodworking room here at Stour Connect.  This new facility has been started via cooperation between The Friends of Stour Connect and has initially been funded by Dorset Older Persons Project (Dorset POPP).  The SHED will provide a meeting place, a workshop but most importantly will provide a base where attendees decide what they want from it.”

“We look forward to seeing you at these two important new events for our local community of all ages.”

The partnership between Tricuro and Friends of Stour Connect is also designed to provide a greater range of community projects and services, and these include lunch clubs, carers’ coffee mornings and a greater range of sporting activities for people with mobility issues and craft and chat social sessions for the whole community.
