Sturminster Newton Eyesore set to become a much more beautiful vision

The derelict land at Old Market Hill has become a rather notorious landmark for local people, but a solution to the problem has been hard to find. The forceful feedback at the Neighbourhood Plan consultations led to a strong petition that found its way to the top of North Dorset District Council. Our MP Simon Hoare joined the small group looking for a solution.
A formal proposal for the land was agreed and this involves the Town Council taking responsibility for the land until such time as the developer decides to build on it. This was put to the site owners, Charles Higgins Ltd and the owners are delighted that it is a proposal they not only support, but are delighted with. As Jon Dunne commented,
“I am so pleased that we have arrived at a solution to this and it is moving on.”
The simple scheme involves soft landscaping with trees in planters that can be sponsored and then, at the end of the tenure, will be either used by the Town Council, or they will donate to local groups and schools.

Details of how to sponsor a planter, how to donate funds, materials or machinery will be available on this website very soon. In the meantime, feel free to register your interest by emailing team@sturquest.org.uk.
